PRIORITIES:
- increase in accountability by the board of education and superintendent for the education of AA/AS
- increase in substantive academic support provided to AA/AS to significantly impact grade level readiness and the opportunity/achievement gaps
- staff attitudes, competencies, communication, and collaboration that effectively meet the needs of AA/AS
- equitable due process for African American staff in SDUSD at all levels, re performance and reassignments
- transparent budgetary practices reflecting use of funds for the purposes established by state/district policy
- accurate/substantive follow through in a timely manner to requests for information/data from SDUSD
- a collaborative respectful relationship between AAAE/AASSC and the superintendent
ISSUES:
- the lack of access to area superintendents and other appropriate district staff for discussion of concerns related to their areas of responsibility
- the quality of communication between SDUSD, AAAE and the African American/African community
- the inequitable learning opportunities provided AA/AS in English language development curriculum, instruction, and scheduling, and no district wide implementation of culturally responsive
teaching
- the lack of a student-centered instructional program for AA/AS in all classrooms district-wide
- the inequitable amount of bond funds allocated for meeting the infrastructure needs of district E schools
- the unacceptable academic opportunities/outcomes of AA/AS in many schools within districts A through E of the school district, not just in district E
